Over this past month big changes have started to happen for me. At the beginning of the month I knew next to nothing about scripting languages and what that knowledge could do for websites and Internet marketing. I was just happily working and going to school and all was good and then the change happened.
So, one day last week I was sitting at my desk and my boss was walking past and causally asked if I would come up with a proposal on what I thought we should do for the new company website they were looking to build. That night I went home and did my school assignment creating an API for Facebook that can be used on any website to show the last 5 Facebook posts made on their Facebook page. It hit me that this very API for Facebook would be a great addition for the proposal I was putting together for my boss.
Two things happened. One, I successfully completed the assignment and two, when I showed my boss the proposal I put together they liked it and said go ahead and get the website built. All in all I learned a valuable skill working with Facebook API and also got my first paying client.
Using the Facebook API to show the last 5 post of the company’s Facebook page to the company’s web site is not only a neat trick but it will also help with the company’s online image it will also help drive traffic and therefore new business to the company.
There are many companies that make good use of Facebook and the API’s that Facebook have made available. Take for instance the airline JetBlue; they watch Facebook very closely to keep current with their customers, finding out issues and getting them resolved as well using their Facebook page to let their customers that follow them on Facebook about upcoming events and fare sales. They use a few APIs for their website, however I the one I built showing the last five posts on Facebook on their website could be helpful for them as well making it even easier for customers keep in touch with the airline.
